Surface bolts are mostly used when one door of two french doors will remain closed the majority of the time. As the name implies, the surface bolt is attached directly to the top of an inactive door and goes in the door jamb when extended. Generally a french door would have at least one surface bolt at the top of the door, but some doors have a bolt for the top and bottom. Emtek surface bolts are available in many finishes to compliment your other door hardware.
